I saw The Perfect American when it was first released on Medici.TV and think those that haven't seen it and like Philip Glass should see it. In my estimation, it is neither his best opera, nor his worst, so perfectly watchable. Despite the comments of a former OL member, I personally liked it. I met someone (who I will endeavor to recruit for this forum) on the bus coming back from Oresteia who saw it live in Madrid.

And the singing is wonderful. Just wish they didn't pull the young lovers gimmick with the pair of ballet dancers. By the way, this one has more ballet than in many operas because of this trick.

You can sign onto Amazon.co.uk and register for the notification when it is orderable.

Well, let's just think about this. Would you *really* want to see Simon Keenlyside and Krassimira Stoyanova doing all that ballet dancing *themselves*???

    Of course not.

Speak for yourself, in my view that would be epic, even if they were really bad

Actually Simon is perfectly capable of holding his own in a ballet troupe - see at 0.35 here.

From Wagner Opera net's Facebook: "David Enos has just received confirmation from Opus Arte that the Herheim Parsifal will not be released by them or anyone else. This is indeed sad news."

No surprises there, but still sad. Apparently it's due to some silly legal quarrel between Bayreuth and Herheim.

    Well, that's just sad.

Maybe, someday, the legal issues will be resolved.

Yay! My favourite version of my favourite opera (saw it on YT)! Can't wait!

Puccini: La fanciulla del West from the Royal Swedish Opera House

Nina Stemme, John Lundgren & Aleksandrs Antonenko

The Royal Opera Orchestra, Pier Giorgio Morandi

Puccini himself described La fanciulla del West as his best and most important work on the path to a new orchestral idiom.

Director Christof Loy stages the opera as an early Hollywood Western and depicts the action surrounding the impossible but passionately erupting love story of Minnie and the most wanted criminal in the West as a psychologically finely honed character study of great suggestive power.
