Guess what my next purchase will be! Gaveaux's opera is the final link in the chain -- actually begins the chain that includes Paer's Leonora, Mayr's L'Amor Coniugale, and the Urfassung and final versions of Fidelio. I'm glad a recording is finally available.

For all the countertenor fans out there:

    “ARC – Glass/Handel”
    Anthony Roth Costanzo
Conductor/orchestra: Jonathan Cohen, Les Violons du Roy
    Decca 4817190 (1 CD)

As the title suggests, he sings excerpts from works by Philip Glass and Handel.

What a great team those two made! Right up there with Mozart and Da Ponte, Verdi and Boito, Strauss and Hofmannsthall, and Comden and Green!

Releasing March 8th. Durlovsky is awesome in the La Sonnambul DVD so this is a must even though they appear from the cover image to treat the Puritans as mental cases in an asylum. https://www.prestomusic.com/classica...ini-i-puritani

Here is a review. And here it is translated to English roughly by Google.

I have mine on order at Dearborn Music. If I am going to pay full price I may as well support my local brick and mortar store.

Dynamic's newsletter shows a May release of Donizetti's Il Castello di Kenilworth in Blu ray and CD formats. The Donizetti Festival performance features Jessica Pratt, Carmella Remigio and Stefan Popp. Amazon UK shows a May 10 date for the release of the CD set. Set for release on May 24 is a promising Attila, with Ildebrando D'Archangelo.

Amazon US shows a May 9 release date for the Donizetti DVD, but not the Blu ray.

Oh this is interesting. Another Donizetti opera that I want to see but haven't had the opportunity yet. Every time I visit Presto Classical, I pass the castle remains which are a few miles away and am reminded of the opera.

Presto Classical notes a June 14 release of Mercadante's Didone Abbandonata. I have a couple of CD operas by Mercadante so this will be my first chance to see one performed.
