Indeed. Some people seem to be carriers but don't feel ill so would be allowed to fly.

According to news reports, Plácido Domingo has tested positive for the coronavirus:

Quite aside from the sexual harassment allegations surrounding him, I'm deeply saddened by this news and hope he's receiving top-notch medical care. People over 65 are particularly vulnerable to this nasty thing.

Confinement concerto as isolating musicians play Beethoven from home

Musicians from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, who are self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic, came together to record a virtual, collaborative performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th symphony from their homes.

The Dutch orchestra filmed the finale of Beethoven's symphony 'Ode to Joy' with 19 musicians recording their individual parts on their respective instruments to a click track. Each part was then added to an audio mix along with an archival recording of the final choir segment.

As concert halls and theatres have been turned into silent, dark spaces by the need for social distancing to slow the spread of the virus, musicians forced into self-isolation have been finding creative ways to perform.

I probably should have posted this under "Miscellaneous Youtube Threads", but wanted to be sure that it was closer to the top, so folks wouldn't miss it.

This is a virtual rendering of "Va Pensiero", with chorus members singing from home.

    Prepare yourselves, it's heartbreaking:

In all of the preoccupation with the coronavirus pandemic, I missed news reports that the Los Angeles Opera’s investigation had corroborated the sexual harassment accusations against Plácido Domingo.

    https://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...-investigation

Of course, the pandemic has made the cancellations of his appearances at various performance venues meaningless, at least for a time – especially since he himself has contracted the virus and is now recovering at home. He’s quoted in a small item in the April issue of Opernwelt as saying he will only cancel scheduled appearances himself if the organization has a problem with his participation.

This “news” is two months old, but I just found out that Katharina Wagner has resigned as Intendantin of the Bayreuther Festspiele due to an unspecified serious illness (it isn’t COVID-19). Right now, things at the Festival are being run by Hans-Dieter Sense, Bayreuth’s business manager from 2013-2016, and his successor, Holger von Berg.
