Curiosity got the better of me. Since I'm already familiar with Beethoven's and Paer's operatic settings of J. N. Bouilly's play, I figured I may as well listen to Mayr's version, as well. (Hint to the recording industry: I couldn't find any CD or DVD of Gaveaux's version.)
I love the way baroque composers recycle their music, this time the most famous of all, spring from the four seasons, as a chorus.
I'd kill to have been at this party - look at the line up: Laura Claycomb, Stéphane Degout, Karine Deshayes, Natalie Dessay, Ann Hallenberg, Philippe Jaroussky, Topi Lehtipuu, Marijana Mijanovic, Sara Mingardo, Sandrine Piau, Renata Pokupic, Anne Sofie Von Otter and Rolando Villazón.
And a fantastic mix of fun and heart rending.

This is such a great Nabucco recording, I had to play Abigaille's (Suliotis) firey aria "salgo gia" three times to get my fill......what a great opera this is!
Love those youtube comparisons.....Callas is an electrifying Abigaille, if only we had a later studio recording for her Nabucco, that sample is from live 1949 Gui complete opera.
Nilsson has a clear powerful voice, but something is not quite right with her cadence of Italian language.....doesn't sound authentic or natural to me like Callas

Yes! Wonderful indeed! I don't know why other people say that Sinopoli's conducting is "lazy", I don't think that at all. Most of the time I find myself tapping my foot and bobbing my head over his orchestration of Nabucco... I don't know if that's a good thing for opera... Dimitrova is a powerfully haughty Abigaille. The duets with Cappuccilli are awesome.El Tigre.....I am listening to the Sinopoli Nabucco now, this is such great opera with exciting choral sections, Dimitrova giving me wonderful "salgo gia"

She would have been 71. As a tribute to my favorite soprano and interpreter of Verdi's powerful, wicked, and scheming women, I shall play all of these (and some of the Recordings of Indeterminate Origin) and put them on "Repeat All" until the day is through:
and perhaps end the day with the 1983 Turandot with Placido Domingo at La Scala.
Nice pieces. I loved Nucci singing Da Quel Di Che T'ho Veduta in act I, too bad Verdi didn't make it into longer aria, it's beautiful line.
and Tchaikovsky.
Barenboim is positively frenzied in this rather unpleasant production with fantiastic singing. Peter Mattei might well be taking over as my favourite baritone.
and I really love Grigoriam even though he looks like one of Santa's helpers (BUt why does Lisa have to be so much of a drip in this production?)

One of my all time favourite recordings but I haven't listened to it for well over a year. I wanted to keep in my memory 'my' Macbeth and this time last May when I seemed to spend every weekend at ROH seeing something Macbeth related. I have the DVD now so I can always watch 'my' Macbeth if I want to re-live that time.

Cossotto is my favourite Lady M ever. Such a good recording.
So I've watched that live transmission of I Capuelai e I Moenayei from Bayerischer but I've watched it with screen turned off because my internet couldn't catch up with the picture transmission so I've watched the sound only. Anna Netrebko is alive and well. Kasarova is well as well but I can tell that even more well she sung in her other performances of this role. Male crew very fine, Dimitri Pittas was nice pieces, they usually cast poor Tebaldos but he wasn't bad at all BUT I WOULD PREFER FLÓREZ anyway, all nice pieces.

Nice pieces. Kaufmann, Harteros - great, rest is not bad too, but the Tellramund is such a yeller, more yeller than a singer. And even when he yells it's without any particular parthos and dramatic craft.
Tirfing by Wilhelm Stenhammar.
This is an opera that that few opera fans had heard up to now. It premièred on the Royal Opera house in Stockholm, and played there from 1898-1901. After that it had not been played until 2011, when the opera in Malmö decided to revive it. Fortunately Swedish television recorded it, and it was shown on television on Sunday. Some critics described the music as Wagner light, and I agree.
Right now i am trying to listen to as much Swedish opera as I am able to find. Unfortunately the opera houses here in Sweden seldom plays domestic operas. For some of them i can understand why. Some are better left unplayed.
This is fantastic, especially the development of the tender relationship between Grimes and Ellen. This is a Grimes who is bullied into becoming a bully, a true tragedy. It's so good that after watching it on Youtube I bought the DVD.

Most of these are hardly romantic arias. But he sings it all so incredibly beautiful that I may even forgive him having such unapt title for his CD.
