In Spain, the most popular zarzuelas are by far those from mid-19th century to early 20th century (until the 1930s).

But Baroque zarzuela is on the rising for the last decade or so. Very Spanish flavour, indeed:

Agree. I found the modern staging very intriguing and it worked.

It was one of those productions where the singers became the characters in my mind so I'll never be able to watch another version (except for John Mark Ainsley who is already Captain Vere and should get back on the Indomitable IMMEDIATELY).
