Lawrence Tibbett without the mustache.
I'm going to delve into this opera by Richard Strauss....taking it first plunge into any of his music actually! One of my friends at school is very enthusiastic about Der Rosenkavalier as he was telling me today.

As usual, I took a wrong turn and ended up somewhere different.

Still, that was fine. It is a bit like when something you didn't order at the restaurant comes to the table but you thoroughly enjoy it.

Continuing my chronological Verdi journey:
I love this but I've only got the one version so have nothing with which to compare. Can someone recommend any other version?
"Every theatre is an insane asylum, but an opera theatre is the ward for the incurables."
FRANZ SCHALK, attributed, Losing the Plot in Opera: Myths and Secrets of the World's Great Operas
RCA Louisa Miller with: Moffo Bergonzi MacNeil Tozzi Flagello(RCA Italian opera chorus Fausto Cleva conductor.
Or easy to find but excellent cast: Louisa Miller: Lauri-Volpi Kelston Vaghi Symphony orchestra and Chorus of Roma Della Radio-Televisione Italianate orchestra Cond by Mario Rossi Chorus cond.by Gaetano Riccitelli.(Cetra Everest)
Or Luisa Miller: Ricciarelli Domingo Bruson chorus and orchestra of the royal opera house Coventry Garden Lorin Maazel. (Deutschland Grammophone) Your best bet to copy verdi's intent I think is the one withLauri-Volpi. The RCA one also is in that tradition with that beautiful Italian all star cast including their nice Italian accents filled with passion and compassion. The Grammaphone one is probably higher quality of sound as it's newer I think)
Anyway sorry I put that Verdi comment in as who really knows how he wanted the opera interpreted. Mascagni on the other hand was alive and indicated the Gigli cast of the opera he introduced was the way he wanted it performed.
This my comment is only my opinion of the truth. All have great moments of listening pleasure.

This one? (What a strange cover!)

Aida with Leontyne Price, 1961 Decca Solti vs 1970 RCA Leinsdorf......
No doubt for me Price is the ultimate Aida, Solti with his love of brass gives us a very dramatic powerful Aida, Rita Gorr (Solti) is so good why do we have so few recordings with her
Price 1961 Aida (Solti)

My Luis Miller is on Everest (Cetra) it's a 33 1/3 rpm set .Mario Rossi is the conductor. Maybe they re- did the cover for the cd.
Poor Lauri-Volpi . I just checked my 33 1/3,Louis Miller (I believe you have the same recording as mine was in 1951. Your cover
With that zucchini does not do justice to Lauri-Volpi. He is one of the all time great tenors. Try him on I Puritani a te cars or Turandot
Nessun Dorma . My cover has the typical male and female dressed like Cinderella and Prince Charming. Good to have sense of humor but why that cover could make people think it's some amateurs. Hope you give it a listen
Price singing Ritorna vincitor is priceless. Tebaldi and a sleeper Dousalina Gianini(spelling) all seem to follow that style but
Price really owns that Verdi Aida role
