Polish opera posters! They are all weird but wonderful.

Mafalda Favero re-opened the la Scala opera house. She sang In Manon Lescaut. (Conducted by Toscanini)
A l1937? Recording of her singing Signor Ascolta Turandot can be found on MDP records.
So my little quiz can baffle people who don't read this late nite post? Those Polish people must admire Italians as I see they put the Zucinni on that cover. What label was that Cd ? I love Chopin so no offensive ethnic jokes intended.
Handel: Agrippina, HWV 6
Alex Penda formerly know as Alexandrina Pendatchanska (Agrippina), the beautiful Jennifer Rivera (Nerone), I love her voice Sunhae Im (Poppea), the superb Bejun Mehta (Ottone), Marcos Fink (Claudio), Neal Davies (Pallante), Dominique Visse (Mago Narciso) & Daniel Schmutzhard (Lesbo)

I suppose one reason Thomas's Mignon is less well known is that it has a plot that is second only to Trovatore for unlikely coincidences- long-lost daughters, jealousy, unrequited love, gypsies, mysterious fires etc etc. But it's full of tunes, including a Gavotte that appears in the Suzuki Violin book 2 repertoire and that I have therefore heard massacred by generations of 7-year-olds at various camps, workshops and group lessons. Nice to hear it played the way it should be, and also great to have the lovely Flicka sing her aria to it.
Marilyn Horne (Mignon), Alain Vanzo (Wilhelm Meister), Nicola Zaccaria (Lothario), Frederica von Stade (Frédéric), Ruth Welting (Philine), André Battedou (Laerte), Claude Meloni (Jarno)

Arrived home this afternoon from Vermont after a week of opera deprivation - days were too busy and too many people around to listen to the iPods (but had them with me), so instead suffered through about a week of insipid pop music.
So, what to listen to?
Don't know why, but settled on Mitridate re de Ponto:
Conductor: Christophe Rousset
with Les Talens Lyriques
Mitridate: Giuseppe Sabbatini
Aspasia: Natalie Dessay
Sifare: Cecilia Bartoli
Marzio: Juan Diego Florez
et al.
The more I listen to this, the more I love the opera and the recording.
Hello and welcome back Hoffmann!
Doctor recommends plenty of aural intake, a good dose of Wagner, Handel, Verdi and Britten at least (though any combination of opera will be equally effective). Repeat course frequently and as often as possible until all symptoms have disappeared. Continue treatment for optimum health.
