Coro y Orquesta del Teatro Real, Madrid

I am a fan of JDF but this cover design I charge Decca as lazy.
Inspired by one of Annie's postings from last week, I realized I hadn't listened to this classic, one of my all time favorites, in a long while:

Whilst JDF's singing takes us on a thrilling ride, Jesús López-Cobos captures the dramatic tragedy within the heart of Orphée. However this compromises the delicacy that switches between heaven and hell, love and grief, or maybe it's just Orfeo and Orphée.
Either way, slightly left wanting, I went back to Muti.

So your post motivated me to play a little Mignon. Here's which one I played: it starts with 1942 Toscanini overture (NBC Ocrchrestra at Carnegie Hall. While many songs r in French there is a Polonase with Lina Pagliughi in Italian. there is a Styrienne in Italian with Ebe Stignani . The rest are pretty much in French . Both the Italian and French songs are all so light peaceful and make you feel like your either in Paris or that recent black & white silent movie ttneeArtist. The French singers of course sound French and the cd has a picture of Renee Doria from year 2000.its on Malibran Music CDRG 154.
