Sampling more classic Wagner from the Met on YouTube.
First the 1936 Meistersinger, one of only two complete recorded performances of the opera featuring Friedrich Schorr, the greatest Hans Sachs ever. Also noteworthy for the beautiful Eva of Elisabeth Rethberg.
Then the 1937 Siegfried, the only complete recording of his signature role by Lauritz Melchior, and featuring Schorr as the Wanderer and Kirsten Flagstad as the awakened Brünnhilde.
Looks like more purchases in my future. My poor wallet!
Having a bit of a Klaus Florian Vogt marathon. I love that man. These are the perfect roles for him, particularly Paul in Die Tote Stadt.

those are three wonderful operas

I don't think that.
Actually, Clayton, I admire the way you've consistently opened yourself to new experiences and expanded your knowledge of opera since you joined us (I only wish my own interests were as wide-ranging). In your modest, unassuming way, but with boundless curiosity and enthusiasm, you've added something very special to Opera Lively.
There. I've gone and said it.
