Unfortunately, Theo Adams' timbre for the Wanderer is very light and no where near what I would call commanding or intimidating. The vocal blending with Wolfgang Windgassen's Siegfried was too close for me to differentiate without becoming annoyed.

Baroque virtuoso arias are very good for marching to. My favourite is "va tacito e nascosto". I channel Sarah Connolly as I stride along to it - sometimes get funny looks.Originally Posted by Hoffmann

What do you think of the opera - and of the recording?
Very nice day yesterday, so took a longer walk than usual - which required a longer opera than usual:
A nice opera, but not really very inspiring walking music.
and naturally, in the LP boxset...Verdi : La Traviata.

The recording is competent but has two voices on it I really don't like - Roberto Saccà (he also sings Walther in Meistersinger, so not exactly an early Mozartian specialist) and Verónica Cangemi (I find her tone almost unbearably uneven), so I'm really glad I just borrowed it fro the library and didn't actually expend hard cash on it. Annick Massis however is a pleasure to listen to.
I'd say choose another recording; and also make sure you have listened to Mitridate, Il Re Pastore, La Finta Giardiniera, Idomeneo, and of course the sublime Clemenza di Tito before bothering with this. The opera has some lovely moments but it's definitely Clemenza lite.
