After Terradellas comes Pergolesi. This is not just a random partnership; they had the same batting coach, studying composition at Conservatorio dei Poveri di Gesù Cristo under Francesco Durante. So they both have very similar styles very evident in their forward strokes.

A very green opera - eight of the twenty-two operas recycled. Listening to Vivaldi can be a little confusing; eh? did I put the wrong cd in?
No walking the last couple of days - too hot and humid for Hoffmann to venture very far without air conditioning. I might get brave enough for a short outing tomorrow before cabin fever sets in. So, no daytime opera.
I sat down tonight to watch the baseball game (it's kind of like cricket, but much more complicated and subtle... snicker...) and my cable was out. I quickly decided that hurling my wine glass against one of the last remaining Panasonic plasma TVs would be foolhardy, so had to resort to drastic action. With a dinner of grilled tuna, heirloom tomato with mozzarella/vinaigrette and basil and a really lovely bordeaux blanc:
This is really quite brilliant, you know. Bellini almost makes up for no baseball.

It was recorded in my home town concert hall and as you might know with friends on high places I could attend a recording session.
On the day he smuggled me in and I watched Jose record his aria.
Edo de Waart was very patience but after the 12 Th time he got a bit nervous. (as was Carreras.)
So take 15 made on the recording.
Saw some von Stade action as well, never to be forgotten .

apart from the local choir at St Peters church, I have never heard the music of Monteverdi live. This and going to Vienna is at the top of my wish list at the moment...
Bucharest does sound like an adventure. I'm sitting here with no place to go for months - Bucharest would be lovely.

One day, I was walking to one of the museums, and ran into this group of guys in jackets and neckties moving these large blocks with letters on them. Very curious, I thought.
I followed them and, when all the blocks were lined up, they were a very clever pop-up advertisement for the Wien Mitte Mall.
Today's listen, finally getting outdoors for a walk on a gorgeous summer morning:
It was so beautiful that I totally forgot my camera and had to resort to my phone for photos from my route. I will try and assemble them now, but it likely will be tomorrow before I put them up.
Not really all that impressed with this. I suspect that it would be better watched than just heard.

Another thing from my fantastic friend who sent me a copy of Elektra. She is very fond of this opera. It's Strauss, again, so I am sure I will like it too!

Hasse is not really first rank baroque, and it's not long enough for a long walk, but Marc'Antonio y Cleopatra has a lot to like. Like Vivica Genaux....
