Does this recording exist on film? There was some clips shown on the Pappano series but is this only a few seconds recorded or was the whole performance recorded? Where is it and why is it not commercially released?

Heh, at the moment my significant other is not in Wagner mood, which is unfortunate at this time of the year...lucky things headphones are to keep audio purely for myself. I did make her listen at the very least to a piano sonata Wagner wrote in 1853, hopefully I can get her to listen to the Wesendock Lieder too.........

After a fantastic (and rather fast) performance of Das Rheingold from Bayreuth, I've decided to put on one last CD before sleep....act 3 of Tristan und Isolde. One of my favourite acts in all of opera.
It's from my big Barenboim Wagner box and this recording I particularly love for Waltraud Meier as Isolde. The rest of the cast: Siegfried Jerusalem (Tristan), Falk Struckmann (Kurwenal), Marjana Lipovšek (Brangäne), Peter Maus (shepherd), Roman Trekel (steersman).
I'm really trying to work out if I prefer Nina Stemme to Waltraud Meier or Birgit Nilsson.....maybe, just maybe......

I don't know that I can solve it any better than you. I've seen all three on stage, though Nilsson only in recital and at the tail end of her career (she started out the first half of her performance kind of rocky: "Dich, Teure Halle", "Liebestod", et al., in the second half, she appeared to finally have warmed up and totally knocked me out with the final 20 minutes from Salome. Her voice filled the considerable auditorium of the Kennedy Center Opera House with no effort. Amazing!
Nina Stemme is an otherworldly Brunnhilde. Waltraud Meier is otherworldly and has awesome stage presence. Birgit Nilsson was just plain awesome.

When I saw the Munich Ring in 2012, it was my first foray to an overseas opera venue. I'm provincial enough that I didn't know who many of the most prominent cast members were. I mostly knew the big names from the 1970s and 80s and recording stars, but not singers who typically don't sing much, if at all, in the U.S.
So, when Nina Stemme started singing (Brunnhilde in Götterdämmerung), I got excited and sat up in my seat and asked the woman next to me who she was (who told me to be quiet). Earlier that week, I was stunned by Klaus Florian Vogt's Siegmund - Klaus who? Wolfgang Koch's Alberich was a revelation. Wolfgang who?
It's all part of an education, even for an old know-it-all like me.
I recognise names fairly easily, but I can never remember where I saw the name, or what voice type they are or what they are in or even when they are/were from. I don't know anything about the people unless I look the name up. A month ago I typed 'Nina Stemme' into youtube because I remembered the name from who knows where, and I discovered the best Libestods I've ever heard in my life.
