    I hate:

-spaceman costume motif of gods, especially despise the hideous absurd outfits of Brunnhilde and Loge
-the constant use of elevated cranes/lifts for singers hinders storyline
-not really thrilled with any of the Valencia singers vocally

Overall I give advantage to new MET Ring even with limitations of "the machine" will post more details at Wagner thread soon
The Mehta Valencia Ring (even though I have not yet viewed it in full) appears more about staging than the music, or the musical performance. It is so utterly bizzare that one thends to focus on the staging. It does not really add anything musically. Still, I bought the Blu-ray (from sale price, would not have otherwise).

Della Casa is my favorite Countess by a long shot. Anyone else feel that way?

Robert Dean Smith took a while to warm up, but WOW he really rocked that last act.

The ten-year-old and I listened to Jonas and Madge in the car on the way down to her violin workshop. Nothing like a captive audience...

Well I haven't got a clue what all that was supposed to be about. Only interesting thing is that one of the ladies on this cover is Mrs Jonas Kaufmann. Nice to see her doing her own thing for once.

Oh dear. I have that Ring on CD, actually. Somewhat of a hot mess. Although the Rheingold orchestra was very good, I thought.

Also, I've been enjoying this thing a little too much lately (Weiber, Weiber, Weiber, Weiber!):

Not quite sure what to make of the production yet, but I am absolutely loving the three ladies (the gents are great as well). Schwanewilms is quickly becoming one of my favourite sopranos.

I've been completely obsessing over Anne Sofie von Otter's new CD for the last week or so. This is such an amazing recording!

Coming from a library near me soon.

And hasn't that woman got an amazingly elegant neck and beautiful posture? Bet she does yoga.

Everything about that woman is elegant. I have a bit of a crush. Which is kind of awkward as she is almost three times my age.

But this is really one to get just for the hilarious bit of sing-alonging at the end of the cantata Squarciata appena havea. And the rest of the CD is equally brilliant.

    morto Saione
    Voi grandi e piccini
    Cantate vicini un falso bordone:
    morto Saione!

Also, I finished this today. Some rather lovely singing, but I think I've had quite enough of leotards for a while now.
