Before reading the synopsis, this album cover made me think it was an opera about lesbians. I now know one of them is supposed to be a young man. She sure does not look the part though.Aaaah I am loving this. First time listening to it.

Sutherland had simply atrocious diction. On the other hand she had spectacularly agile coloratura.
I do see her greatness and I do have some of her recordings which I like. I wouldn't exactly call her one of my favorites, though.

Interesting idea for a Regie version. I wonder why nobody has thought of it yet. Maybe there is a performance somewhere that tried this twist.

I also like the Antonini/Bartoli interpretation of Norma. Like other members have stated it is a little different from others but I think this is good. However this is one of those operas which I still have an outstanding (damn, I'm using that word again) favourite that comes from La Scala 7 December 1955Now is the time to listen to Bellini. I've never heard anything by Bellini before. Ever. This is completely new to me. Currently I am reading about the opera as well to get an idea of the plot, Bellini's style and other things.
