Throughout the day I felt like a change from my usual Puccini (Il Trittico is hard to get bored with!) or my usual Verdi's (Dunque, signori, aspettovi Signori, aspettovi ...) so to Il Trovatore it was!
For Il Trovatore its plot will always be its biggest let down I still love it though.

Handel.
Mostly Handel.
Lately I have been listening to mostly Handel.
In particular Alcina (because I reminded myself of it with the Aix-en-Provence post) that comes complete with mio cor, schernito sei-earworm
Handel: Alcina
Joyce DiDonato (Alcina), Maite Beaumont (Ruggiero), Karina Gauvin (Morgana), Sonia Prina (Bradamante), Kobie Van Rensburg (Oronte), Laura Cherici (Oberto), Vito Priante (Melisso)
Il Complesso Barocco, Alan Curtis
and because of Festat's Kermes, Kermes, Kermes
Handel: Rodelinda
Simone Kermes (Rodelinda), Marijana Mijanovic (Bertarido), Sonia Prina (Eduige), Marie-Nicole Lemieux (Unolfo), Steve Davislim (Grimoaldo), Vito Priante (Garibaldo)
Il Complesso Barocco, Alan Curtis
and my preferred Kermes (Handel)
Handel: Deidamia
Simone Kermes (Deidamia), Dominique Labelle (Nerea), Anna Maria Panzarella (Achille), Anna Bonitatibus (Ulisse), Furio Zanasi (Fenice) & Antonio Abete (Licomede)
Il Complesso Barocco, Alan Curtis
This one is number two in the Clayton Handel charts this month. Though CAMP (Clayton Awards for Musical Performance) also recognizes Sally Matthew's Deidamia for excellence.

Any opinions on the best performances of this one? Amazon reviewer has reservations about Harding, but other reviewers praise him.
I agree with Natalie on the Bedford recording, but I never knew Naxos released it. The one I have has this very unintentionally comic and all the same kinda spooky cover:

Home alone this afternoon so cranked up the real hi-fi system (sans headphones yay!) and listened to this. Aida is still not high on my Verdi list but there were some great moments.
