What opera have you been listening to, lately?

Well due to recently losing my wallet and going on a long and epic quest to get it back! (Bus to Truro from Falmouth get redirected back after being told in Truro my wallet is in a shack in an industrial estate on the outskirts of Falmouth to which there is no bus hence it can only be reached by walking) On my long lord of the rings style journey I had the opportunity to listen to Un Ballo In Maschera in full again!

Yes unfortunately my new debit card was delivered as a package so got redirected to the royal mail station on the same estate so I need go on the 45 minute long walk each way again on Monday. Thankfully everything else was still in the wallet. I think La Boheme as my listening on that day.

How frustrating, not everyone has a car. Pleased you haven't lost out financially though.

I bought this several months ago and promptly forgot about it. My usual recordings (Bonynge/Sutherland/Horne and Ion Marin/Studer/Larmore/Ramey) are notorious for having been produced with cuts.





The Naxos is considered complete, but I'm not crazy about Alex Penda's voice. One of the tenors, too, has kind of a funky timbre that is off-putting. Complete is good, I suppose, but give me good old-fashioned thrilling singing any day over complete.

I needed to go to the railway station to collect some tickets, then I went to Sainsbury's, then to Asda and town is 45 minutes there and 45 back.

I got as far as Narbal's aria which I absolutely adore, so I didn't do too bad.

Much like Wagner I need to make time to listen to Les Troyens I must confess its length frightens me somewhat like Meistersinger but I do want to try Wagner and Berlioz soon maybe after I've finished some more Verdi.
