Medici TV's Pelléas et Mélisande from Paris Opera, directed again by Robert Wilson. Another good match to this delicate and mysterious opera which I am beginning to love. It's like bathing in moonlight.

Specifically, the Parsifal in this set.
If you're a Parsifalian or a Waltraud Meier fan, get these two recordings now.
A concert with the Gothenburg opera orchestra yesterday.
The program was:
Rossini: Overture from The thieving magpie
Bellini: Overture frim Il pirata
Donizetti: “O mio Fernando”, Leonoras aria from La Favorita
Donizetti: Ballabili (ballet music) from La Favorita
Rossini: Overture from Semiramis
Rossini: ”Qui est homo”, duet from Stabat Mater
Bellini: Overture from Norma
Donizetti: Overture from Don Pasquale
Donizetti: "O luce di quest' anima", Lindas aria from Linda di Chamounix
Bellini: Overture from Beatrice di Tenda
Rossini: Overture from Wilhelm Tell
Rossini: ”Fiero incontro”, duet fom Tancredi
As you probably already have guessed the theme of the evening was Bel Canto. Of the instrumental pieces Rossinis really stand out. I find his music more fun to listen to than Bellini and Donizetti. There is something about a Rossini Overture that gets me going. Probably the Rossini crecendos...![]()
But there where some singing too. We where at the opera after all. The two singers was Katarina Karnéus and, a singer that I know Axel has heard about, Mari Eriksmoen. Katarina was good but Mari was better. I was very impressed by her. I even wonder if she shouldn't be on the Young singers to watch list. She is after all only 29. Her O luce di quest' anima was absolutely beautiful and she got the biggest applause of the evening.
Be wewy wewy quiet. I'm listening to opewa....
Sounds like a really fun concert! And yes, Mari Eriksmoen is great!
I'm seeing her do the Poulenc Gloria and Carmina Burana in a few weeks. And her Adele at the opera in December.
Samson et Dalila and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Samson is Palestinian and Dalila Israeli. So you can imagine that the libretto makes no sense at all in this context. And I never want to hear Torsten Kerl nasalise another note.

Hello, "Amofrtas"
I see you like to joke araund... there is no mispelling... it's opera called Edmea by A. Catalani from 1886... opera from 1886, not Catalani... Catalani is from 1854... hehe... see I can joke araund too... but in good taste,... so,... for your information I just "said" (on the web we write but sometimes we say we "said" something...")
I send my regards "Amofrtas"...
Berkley Winston
I recommend you listen Catalani... not only undramatic reneissances like I see you like people here...

The andante from the Op. 18 Sextet from Brahms is some of his most sublime music. In case any of you get tired of opera, this makes a nice break.
