Kiri and Flicka being wonderful is sort of a given, what always surprises me in this is David Rendall. He is good.

Yes, it's a bit of an obsession, I guess. Keeping my weight and blood pressure under control are my incentives.
A factor also, I suppose, both of too much time on my hands and still hearing my mother's voice telling me when I was a kid to go outside and get some fresh air (or, at least as fresh as the air might be here in Washington...)

This recording is really good. I started with this opera on DVD, then bought the Freni/Pavarotti set, followed by the Tagliavini/Tassinari set. But the opera was just not working for me on CD, perhaps because of the dated sound. So finally I grabbed the Alagna/Gheorghiu set and it is wonderful:
