...it was obvious where resurrecting the Bellini thread would lead Clayton to...

a very good opera, a very good performance and a very good recording. These dhm/Sony recordings are such fantastic value for money (GBP14 at PC) http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/w/2...emenza-di-Tito

For yesterday's walk I decided to test my theory of baroque being the best accompaniment. I remembered that this probably was the best item in the box of operas I bought at auction last fall:

    Name: Scipione.jpg

Size: 85.8 KB

    Conductor: Christophe Rousset
    Derek Lee Ragin
    Sandrine Piau
    Doris Lamprecht
    Olivier Lallouette
    Vanda Tabery
    Guy Flechter

This is a wonderful opera with constantly interesting music and, although the cast is unknown to me, expertly sung.

If clips count, then I am listening to this and debating whether to buy a set. It reminds me somewhat of the style of Wagner's Lohengrin (probably not even close, but ...):

Also did clips for this one with Janowitz:
Since that night at the Polka, I don't understand you, Sheriff.

Bought this ages ago and hadn't heard it until today. My path to town is flooded and I had to walk along the main road which I hate so I needed something entertaining and this is superb!

I have a few Opera d'Oro recordings, many of which have only so-so sound. This one is particularly good, with ol' Montsy in top form and terrific singing by tenors Franco Bonisolli and Pietro Botazzo.

Every time I see the front cover of this CD I am reminded of this girl in the Bronzino painting:

Another Donizetti which has completely failed to click with me, despite an excellent cast:

This accompanied me to the train station to buy tickets, to the opticians to book an eye test and to several shops...

... then I ran out of music but this is the perfect length for my walk home from town (and probably my favourite version).
