"Every theatre is an insane asylum, but an opera theatre is the ward for the incurables."
FRANZ SCHALK, attributed, Losing the Plot in Opera: Myths and Secrets of the World's Great Operas
I went there straight away and thought long and hard about becoming a friend to apply for this ticket... I decided to wait and see if there are any tickets remaining on General Public opening day. I hope I don't regret that decision.
I'm holding a strong card; as I think any European trips are going to be a bit too expensive this year, I'll put that budget towards this ticket
YESTERDAY:

Wagner: Der Ring des Nibelungen
Studio Recording, Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert Von Karajan 1967-1970.
This was part of a planned collaboration between Salzburg and New York that went a bit pear-shaped as, amongst other reasons, Karajan was dissatisfied with the playing of the Met Orchestra.
The final part (Götterdämmerung) is so wonderful I was moved to tears. I also cried at the end of the Die Walküre recording but for completely the wrong reasons. (Fault on the CD in the final scene)

I can walk to town, do shopping, library and railway station and walk back home on this.
