What a fab recording!

That is my only Cenerentola and I don't feel the need for any others. Had Bartoli for a while but got rid of it. She would be better off singing Handel Operas the way she wobbles her voice all the time.

I also have the DVD of Cenerentola that has several of the same singers (Montarsolo, and the two nasty daughters IIRC), but a splendid von Stade. Still that is made like a movie and I suppose it would be good to get an actual opera DVD, perhaps Didonato is the way to go for my second Cenerentola.

Ah Ha! That is it! I didn't know what to do as I have nothing on order. Well now I have a mission. Find a great Cenerentola for my second on DVD. I'll go take a look at the favorite operas voting thread and see what OperaLively folks picked.

To be very frank, though, Ponnelle's movie is indeed the best, and it is by far his most successful incursion in film making. I could never sit through another Cenerentola without thinking "Wow, this was done much better by Ponnelle" at least once.

You are right, the Ponnell movie is the best Cenerentola. I scoped many and Donose is on my potential future get list along with Bartoli and Didonato.

Old fool that I am, I left my small traveling bag full of charging cords, all of my iPods, etc. behind when I changed flights at the Munich airport last week. I contacted Lufthansa who told me that the bag has not been turned in. I will try the airport's regular lost and found (Fundbüro) when I return to Munich tomorrow, but don't have much hope.

The sound quality on this recording is superb (nevermind the 1955 bit, it's just superb) so we are able to enjoy the fantastic singing from this brilliant cast and performance. A very highly recommended recording for Tchaikovsky, EO, russian opera, Lemeshev or Petrov or any combination of those, fans...

I'm back in business. The good news is that I found the charging cords pouch buried in a carryon bag when I was packing for Munich the other day. The bad news is I'm not sure whether it was worse to have lost the bag or to go for days thinking I lost it when it was there all the time.
