I felt it worked beautifully in English. This was my very first listen to this particular opera, and it sounded almost as though it could have been an originally English opera. of course I have not compared to the original yet, but I'll do so soon

As I am going to see Ariadne at Glyndebourne in the summer, I have listened to this for the first time in ages. Kempe's recording is my usual 1st choice nowadays, but Hvk's period with the Philharmonia was probably when he was at his musical peak.

This recording - and opera - are so good they almost qualify as a guilty pleasure.

Great Ring. I paid a king's ransom for the Pristine remasters which do make a big improvement in sound quality.

Ha ha! Yes, I think it's close to the highest price I've paid for an opera CD but so worth it!

A brilliant mix tape... errr I mean pasticcio put together by Handel of pieces by Vinci, Vivaldi, Hasse, Porpora and Leo and a fab cast to go with it.

Yes, yes, yes! Barock 'n Roll! The wife says it's music to bop to and likes it (laughing while asking "are you listening to this again?)

I think the next opera we go to see has to be French baroque, with all the trimmings.

Oh and I also want to go to Budapest.

I am not very much of a Puccini guy but Tosca gets me every time. And Leontyne Price.

I decided I had to hear what Fidelio sounded like compared with the performance of Leonore I saw yesterday evening:

Well I was just on a Fidelio run a week ago and listened about 10 times to several different Fidelio recordings, then listened to Leonore, and I do prefer Fidelio.
