Kind of off to a slow start this morning, so while pondering today's walk:
Summer is upon us here in DC.. I finally broke down and turned on the air conditioning last night as the humidity was bonkers. I now have to begin to re-organize my walking to morninings while there is some shade remaining and before the heat catches up. Bad news if you are not a morning person!

I'm finally able to walk and listen simultaneously. I walked the same distance today but as my speed is much slower I had time to listen to two complete operas.
The diction is so clear I don't need the libretto and will be able to learn it easily before I see it.

I'd forgotten how much I like this. Seeing it in July with a friend who is a relative opera newbie and is at that stage where she just wants to see everything!! I remember that feeling.

Yes, I remember that feeling all too well, and how excited I was. That excitement may have passed, but the pleasure and passion only have grown.
I also recall my first Turandot and how my jaw dropped hearing "Nessun Dorma" for the first time. New York City Opera, ca 1978/79, when they were still touring. A real spectacle!

I don't know if it is because this really is the best version (I know it's highly lauded) or I'm simply finally clicking with this work in general, as it steps out of the shadows of my other beloved Verdi operas. Either way, really enjoying this right now:
