Saturday's walk:
I have a couple of Armida recordings and have to admit that this is one Rossini opera that doesn't quite make it with me. I recall seeing the Met's HD broadcast several years ago and thinking it wonderful. The problem here may be the opera depends on four great Rossini tenors - the guys here are only ok.

Les Indes galantes has probably the most infectious tune of all of opera, though. You'll be whistling this for the rest of your life. When you least expect you'll see yourself skipping down the street while it plays on your mind.
In need of some Verdi this evening![]()
I also love Les Fêtes d'Hébé; it's got poetry, music and dance, it's fabulous! I probably have listened to that one the most in the past couple of years. It's the sort of recording that made me want to listen to everything Sophie has recorded.
Sophie Daneman, Sarah Connolly, Maryseult Wieczorek, Gaelle Mechaly (Dessus), Jean-Paul Fouchecourt, Paul Agnew (Haute-Contres) & Luc Coadou, Thierry Felix, Matthieu Lecroart, Laurent Slaars (Basses)
Les Arts Florissants, William Christie
Recorded Jan 1997, Salle Wigram, Paris
On my work commute, I started a lesser known Dvorak opera, a rental from the library. I know nothing about it other than that it's a "folk opera". The box has the libretto but I haven't really found the time to dig into it.
This is part of my new "composer-of-the-month" listening project
Still not up to speed so I was able to listen to all of this on my shopping trip.

I'm very happy to hear the tendon is healing and you're walking more now.

Two of the operas by Donizetti that I'm enjoying most recently, both on the fabulous Opera Rara label;
Though not listening to opera now as I'm listening to the cricket as Alex Hales has literally smashed the ball and some replacements are brought out...
