Homework for Rome. Gedda is such a wonderful singer. I'm happy that the production I'll be seeing is in French.

Nabucco in English. Much better than Otello in English so far, up there with their Macbeth. The English diction isn't perfect but I'm understanding enough of it to make it worth the listen. Nabucco is one of the Verdi operas I plan on learning in depth in the next year. (along with the aforementioned Macbeth, and perhaps Giovanna D'arco).
My goal is to eventually learn all of Verdi's operas inside out!
If you haven't visited it yet, there's a good thread that list some of our favourite recordings
http://operalively.com/forums/showth...top-100-operas
of our top 100 operas list we made a while ago. It does not have all the Verdi operas but there's a few there.
Verdi: Nabucco
Elena Souliotis (Abigaille), Tito Gobbi (Nabucco), Carlo Cava (Zaccaria), Bruno Prevedi (Ismaele), Dora Carral (Fenena), Giovanni Foiani (Gran Sacerdote), Walter Kräutler (Abdallo), Anna d'Auria (Anna)
Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor, Wiener Opernorchester, Lamberto Gardelli
After all the recent Verdi posts and then the Nabucco, this had to jump the playlist. It was inebitable
inedible
inedita
was certain to happen.
In anticipation of hearing Simon Keenlyside sing Golaud for the first time, I'm listening to this.
