More Janacek in English. I have one more week of Amazon Unlimited Music, so I'm trying to get through several of Janacek's. Then later in the month or early next month, I'll listen through my Janacek Opera Box.

Cunning Little Vixen works better in English than Makropulos Case (though ironically I feel the singers were better in the latter).

Cunning little vixen is my favourite Janacek by far. So beautiful (Jenufa is second).

I bought this a while back and realized I hadn't yet listened to it. The recording seems more refined than the Met Live recording I have had with Birgit Nilsson and Jon Vickers:

It is a studio recording. You need to get the Bernstein DVD production with same cast (but for a different Don Ferdinan) and you will hear a much better performance IMO. Well hey, just compare it now. The DVD is on You Tube. Personally, I never listen to the studio set, always favoring the live performance as having more realism and more emotion.

Jenufa is one of those operas I really do watch for the plot. It gets me every time.

Just arrived today. Am about halfway through it. Awesome opera. Quite a bit of ballet too.

Yes, Jenufa definitely! Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Macbeth, Pique Dame, Eugene Onegin, Salome, The Tsar's Bride, Tosca, L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria, Billy Budd, Peter Grimes, Turn of the screw are some others that do it for me.

Working my way through my Prokofiev box set

Semyon Kotko is Prokofiev's grittiest opera, but has some of the loveliest music

You guys are talking about this set, right?

I've had my eye on it for a while. Should I break down and get it, too? The sale lasts just three more days.

I was curious too and you have found much more than I have. Now I am able to scope it out. Here is the back image with the operas listed and the bar code for easier searching. Where is it on sale and for how much? I am seeing $45 USD on Amazon.
