What opera have you been listening to, lately?

I couldn't choose between this live recording from the 1964 Glyndebourne Festival or the one from the 1957 Festival with the same conductor and Idomeneo, and Jurinac and Simoneau as Ilia and Idamante . . . so I bought both of them.

And they're both wonderful.

There's some great productions in this collection. I think this started as an archiving project but they realized that it was just too interesting and released the recordings, with much thanks from the fans!

I have at turns struggled with, then avoided this work. Finally ready to appreciate it. I cannot really get caught up in the drama of it the way I would a Verdi opera, but I'm simply letting the atmospheric sounds wash over me, and I am enjoying it.

I'm liking this recording more and more -- prefer Wottrich and Salminen to Schreier and Adam on the Carlos Kleiber version.

Not an essential opera, but I'm really enoying the French singing by Mirella Freni in this one, simply lovely. I feel recitative is somewhat more pleasing to my ear in French as well

I now have 21 Sonnambula sets and left this one (my first one on CD) in the dust a long time ago, but am coming back to it. Actually quite a good recording.
