You lift your purchasing stop for one recording, you KNOW you'll start lifting it for others

Listening to Bizet: Carmen. Leontyne Price in the title role

Really liking this one. Aliberti somewhat sounds like Callas. So of my 21 sonnambulas, my favorites seem to be coming down to Aliberti, Gruberova, Luba Orgonášová (NAXOS), Moffo, and possibly Jana Valášková.

    Also listening to:

"Ah,non credea mirarti si presto estinto, o fiore." --Bellini, La Sonnambula (also written on his tomb).

I bought this mainly because each act is complete on its own disc.
    And I love this opera.
It has received a lot of criticism and I am curious to see how I like it.
Giving it a thorough listening today.
I'll let you know what I think.

^^^^^I must say I am disappointed in this recording.
here's no sense of mystery, Uhl is a weak Tristan. Nilsson not in good form.
and there are odd balances in sound.
    Not a good choice

Solti was a monster for Wagner recordings, but there's bound to be a dud every now and then.

Right now I am listening to Verdi: Nabucco, the Gardelli recording. I'm excited to give it a listen as I've been enjoying Tito Gobbi lately, and much has been made of Suliotis' Abigaille. Glad Spotify is allowing me to listen to a variety of recordings without draining my bank...though I'm still tempted to buy some of these recordings anyway!

I've been listening to a lot of French opera lately:

Gluck: Orphee et Eurydice, with Juan Diego Florez

Offenbach: Les Contes D'Hoffman with Joan Sutherland

Well, this is not a very good Tristan.
Poor stereo balances, Nilsson not in very good form.
    No sense of mystery.
    In short, not recommended.

Bought this to remind myself why Domingo was my favourite singer in the eighties - his recent outings have really put me off but he is in glorious form here, generally an enjoyable Boccanegra .

Not heard this version. On the list.

Want a great Tristan at a ridiculous low price?
    Here it is.
    Great sound, conducting and singing.
    Recommended.

I've got one of those - I haven't listened to it in a while, so need to cue it up:

I just bought this, but haven't yet listened to it. The ULP is starting to tilt...

I returned on Sunday evening from my trip to Berlin (and the Dordogne, France, to help celebrate an old friend's 70th. Birthdays are starting to get serious...).

Anyway, one of my purchases while away might become my new favorite of this opera, one of my favorite Mozarts:

Karl Böhm, Conductor, with Arleen Augér, Peter Schreier, Reri Grist, Kurt Moll, et al., and Staatskapelle Dresden & Leipzig Radio Chorus (1974)
