Maybe do it Frasier-style with sherry and a sherry glass...Frasier Crane, sherry, and opera, there's a good mix!
And thanks, happy to be here...your site's quite an education in itself, too, which is refreshing...I'm used to knowing it all backwards and forwards and in ridiculous detail when it comes to literature...but I (sadly) don't know much about music other than what I like--which of course would be opera, so it's always nice to learn more, especially in case I ever want to speak intelligently on the matter or play an instrument someday like the first part of my namesake. Seems like you run a great site.![]()

Lucic doesn't seem very happy about this production...
This production brings out the deep and heartbreaking tragedy of this opera. Christopher Ventris and Emily Magee are magnificent and Franz Welser-Möst does a fantastic job with the evocative and haunting music. This is my second viewing - after my first on YouTube I had to buy this and I am glad I did.

La Rondine from the Met
This opera's storyline is highpoint of blank, indistinct love stories. The only cool characters are Prounier and the maid and these are very nice here, especially the poet who looks very much like some contemporary geezer of Proust. If it wouldn't be for very good cast, climatic staging, I would throw up afterwards. Despite some successful pages by Puccini, this is opera I won't return to any soon.

I happen to absolutely love La Rondine. This is a nice production but not my favourite on DVD (i prefer the Cedolins/Portari DVD). The opera is so melodic and bittersweet. The duet " Paulette! I nostri amici son gia partiti" is one of my favourite scenes in all of opera. It contains some absolutely beautiful music.
Today, is my birthday and i fancy a bit of Le Nozze di Figaro. Not sure why as its not my favourite opera but one i am always intrigued by. I will watch some of the DVD from Paris. Its a Christoph Marthelar production with Sylvain Cambreling conducting and stars Mattei, Oelze and the wonderful Christine Schaffer. I don't know why, of all the DVDs of this opera that i have -this one makes the most sense! Love the music, love the production and the singers are great too! Enjoy
