Having a lot of ear pets (some refer to as earworms, but these are too good to be worms). Seeing parallels between Elvino and Lyonel of Flotow's Martha. Different stories up front, but both very harsh and unforgiving to their ladies before finally accepting them in the end.

Verdi: Aroldo
I am trying to get in the habit of listening to my new music purchases almost right away after buying it. (along with greatly reducing the quantity of my purchases!) I had been waiting around for the price of the Caballe Aroldo to drop, but it wasn't moving into my price point so I went with this one instead. The female singer is definitely a downgrade from Caballe, however I am happy with the purchase for the beautiful impassioned singing by the male leads, the Aroldo in particular
This is a very good Sonnambula, one of my favorites!

Das Rheingold from this awesome set.
Conductor/orchestra: Riccardo Muti, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
Vienna State Opera Chorus
Cast: Margaret Marshall (Fiordiligi), Agnes Baltsa (Dorabella), Francisco Araiza (Ferrando), James Morris (Guglielmo), Kathleen Battle (Despina), José Van Dam (Don Alfonso)
I think this live recording from the Salzburg Festival was the first of three recordings Riccardo Muti has made of this opera (not including one that's a variation on this cast with Anne Murray as Dorabella).

On this day (5th September 1840) the première of Un giorno di Regno was staged at Teatro alla Scala, Milan. So can't not listen to it!
