Speaking of I Puritani . . .
Conductor/orchestra: Richard Bonynge, Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Massimo “Bellini,” Catania
Cast: Mariella Devia (Elvira), William Matteuzzi (Arturo), Christopher Robertson (Riccardo), Paolo Washington (Giorgio), Franco Federici (Walton), Eleonora Jankovic (Enrichetta)
Jennifer Larmore's voice unfortunately is no longer what it was (and she is a mezzo, too, and is 60 years old, now). A great current bel canto light coloratura soprano is Jessica Pratt.

"J'ai dit qu'il ne suffisait pas d'entendre la musique, mais qu'il fallait encore la voir" (Stravinsky)
Jessica Pratt is excellent in the DVD. Just might be the best Sonnambula on DVD.
How about Mariella Devia? At 70 years her voice is still wonderful. She did La Sonnambula in the past but the recording wasn't the greatest sound quality. Here is her chance to do it again and get a great recording.
"Ah,non credea mirarti si presto estinto, o fiore." --Bellini, La Sonnambula (also written on his tomb).
The French coloratura soprano Sabine Devieilhe has been making quite a name for herself over the past few years.
And she sang Amina in a performance of La Sonnambula at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées two years ago.
Mascagni: Cavalleria Rusticana
Conducted by Karajan, with Fiorenza Cossotto and Carlo Bergonzi

Yesterday was a slow Sunday, so started the day with
I think I listened to this once right after I bought it and then lost interest in it. It actually is a lovely recording with Sills and her colleagues all in fine shape.
Then, for about the first time in some months, decided I had to get out of the flat for a walk (6+ miles RT to Barnes and Noble) and gloried in this wonderful opera and recording:
After browsing in the book store, I decided on something short for the walk home:
And, this morning:

Good to hear you've been out walking again.
Since I moved I don't have a three mile walk into town (and back) for shopping and while it's a boon, I need to keep my fitness level up as I still want to be able to enjoy my opera trips.
This morning I set off for a proper walk and listened to this:

FRANZ SCHALK, attributed, Losing the Plot in Opera: Myths and Secrets of the World's Great Operas
"Ah,non credea mirarti si presto estinto, o fiore." --Bellini, La Sonnambula (also written on his tomb).
Bizet: Les Pêcheurs de Perles
Julie Fuchs (Leïla), Cyrille Dubois (Nadir), Florian Sempey (Zurga), Luc Bertin-Hugault (Nourabad); Les Cris de Paris & Orchestre National de Lille, Alexandre Bloch
A very Gallic version - Cyrille Dubois is a distinctly French haut-contre rather than an Italianate tenor, so comes across well as a very young man in the first flush of love. I've always liked Florian Sempey since seeing him in the Bordeaux Dardanus. The revelation for me was Julie Fuchs who is now one of the select band of sopranos I actively enjoy listening to.
