    Verdi: Ernani

Carlo Bergonzi (tenor), Leontyne Price (soprano), Mario Sereni (baritone), Julia Hamari (mezzo-soprano), Hartje Mueller (bass vocal), Fernando Iacopucci (tenor), Ezio Flagello (bass vocal)

    Thomas Schippers conducting
I still remember this recording came on the market, ever been my favorite since.

I have been doing a lot of running around recently and had gotten out of the habit of listening so thought this would be a nice way to start the day yesterday:

That is both a wonderful, amazing opera - and a really wonderful recording! Do you like it?

    I do indeed.

I've actually been round Loch Katrine on a boat so I really had to see this opera!

    Yep. Born OTD 1926.

I love this recording. It was an opera I didn't really know so before I went to see it, I got this recording and the Netrebko (of course!!) DVD for prep.

I kept this off my favorites list last go around a couple weeks ago, but on second listen, this is a very good ring.

So now my favorites list includes Sawallisch 1989, Furtwangler 1953, Krauss 1953, Levine 1989, Barenboim, Bohm, and Solti. I am biased towards live, but include Levine for Behrens, and Solti because it is a very magnificant production. Going to relisten to Levine next.

The Krauss is absolutely thrilling and is the recording I listen to most. If you really come to love it; it's well worth checking out the Andrew Rose remastering. Though you might have to sell your truck and half your house as it is quite pricey.
Also worth trying the Keilberth who did the same year and also 1955, the first stereo recording.

That was my first Ring on DVD--Awesome Ring! I actually posted about it last night, but when I posted my listening cycle I must have deleted my post thinking it was a quote. Must have hit edit and thought I had hit quote, and in my hurry didn't look at what I was deleting before posting. Long story but I hit wrong buttons all the time like in the car trying to work the HVAC.
