Funny, a parallel is when Bernstein did Fidelio and then did the audio release in the studio separately and with one different singer. Anyway, I am coming to find that the Levine Ring is perhaps my favorite. I like Behrens a bit more on Sawallisch's set, but the Levine has cleaner sound.

Doing it again! Listening to Zagrosek's Ring. Don't know where it goes in my list, but probably somewhere in the favorites. Certainly above Janowski (Dresden), Neuhold, and Swarowsky.

After a couple months of mostly Wagner's Ring I am taking a break. Three of my favorite La Sonnambula Recordings. A shame the sound isn't better on the Moffo set.

Camilla Nylund (Leonore). I gutted all the monologue because it was a narrator instead of the singers. This is really Leonore 1805, but for some reason they are calling it Fidelio. Sound clips here: https://www.prestomusic.com/classica...t-version-1805

Beethoven called the original version of his opera Leonore, but it was never performed under that title. To avoid confusion with Paer's Leonora, which had premiered in Dresden the year before, the management at the Theater an der Wien made Beethoven change the name of his opera for its world premiere there in 1805. So this really is Fideliio, 1805 version.
