The one above, with Popp and Jerusalem, is the best Martha money can buy. I have it in a different cover, but the above is the nicest cover. Of these three, below, Wilma Lipp is quite good, I might put it second to Popp.

Today skimming the bottom of my Martha list. First one is live recording of a Reggie theatre performance that I have not warmed up to yet. Second is sung in Italian and just does not sit right with me because of that. Third is a performance in English that has a Gilbert and Sullivan goofiness to it that also doe not sit well with me. Maybe after having set these aside for a year or so, I will appreciate them more. Anyway this is my playlist for today. I'll throw in the Solti Messiah if I have time because I just went to a live Messiah performance last night and so am getting the bug to listen to that some more.
Edit, now that I have been listening:
This one is decent, but I just don't think the singing can compare to that of the Popp/Jerusalem set. These singers, IMO, are just not as good.
I had to quit this one after the first act. Italian just does not work for me in this opera.
This one is not so bad, I think I am warming up to it. And it is rather humorous. G&S is probably a hyperbolic characterization. And, at least I can follow some of the words.

I don't know this opera at all and I must remedy that. Your enthusiasm has get me interested!

I highly recommend the Popp/Jerusalem set as the best one of all. It comes in several releases. You should be able to pick it up relatively cheap used. May be on You tube too.Originally Posted by Ann Lander (sospiro)

It's a charming opera, though its depiction of rural England during the reign of Queen Anne probably bears little resemblance to what life was actually like then. And you may be amused by the two protagonists' pronunciation of "Derby." Popp goes for the American "Durby," while Jerusalem comes out with a very Germanic "Dehrby."
