I'm trying to gain some familiarty with Korngold's operas outside of 'Die Tote Stadt'. Violanta will take another listen or so to get a better sense of it.
Thanks, MAuer. Do you know any of the other Korngold operas?
Saw it on YouTube, it's good enough to buy. And Tudor buffs will wonder how the producers got the real Henry to step out of his portraits with a well-trained and resonant baritone voice.
Rene Pape sounded amazing, and Diana Damrau really kicks butt as queen of the night here, but I WISH Aksel hadn't made his "She looks like broccoli" remark on another thread cos I did get distracted by leguminous thoughts.

Where can I get all of Gobbi's recordings?
This recording reminded me what a great conductor Karajan was in the 50s.
Listening to these in one playlist and in this order. I really struggled at first, especially with Curlew River, but I'm getting there. Will get the Marriner Curlew River when I can find a reasonable Market Seller.
