Glyndebourne Festival Chorus
Cast: Richard Lewis, Gundula Janowitz, Luciano Pavarotti, Enriquetta Tarros, Neilson Taylor, David Hughes, Dennis Wicks
This is one of two recordings I have of Idomeneo from the Glyndebourne Festival with Sir John Pritchard conducting and Richard Lewis singing the title role. The Ilia and Idamante in the two performances are both so good that I couldn’t choose between them.
A plus here is the inclusion of two arias often omitted in live performances: Idamante’s “No, la morte io non pavento” and Idomeneo’s “Torna la pace.”
