What opera have you been listening to, lately?

I had the LP version, and in many respects, it's an excellent recording. I think much depends on how one reacts to Domingo's Walther. He has a beautiful voice, no doubt, but my enjoyment of his singing was always compromised to some extent by his unidiomatic pronunciation.

It is definitely a beautiful recording. There is some of that vinyl sound of static from the whatever (dust, i don't know, but common to vinyl), but overall a wonderful sound. And someone else already ripped it for me. Since I bought a CD copy, i don't have a problem ripping the You Tube of it.

I can't tell that his German pronunciation is off but it certainly sounds different overall. But I like it.

I do, but the Varvsio set is wearing a bit thin on me. Now am listening to the Sawallisch Meistersinger and nothing I have heard can compare, but I am told Kubelik is the one to get.

If the Kubelik is the one I'm thinking of -- with Janowitz as Eva and Sandor Konya as Walther -- I've had my eye on that recording, as well.

What I'd really like would be a Meistersinger with JK as Walther!

That would be wonderful, especially on DVD!

I found the Kubelik recording on You Tube. It does seem to edge out Sawallisch but I think I like both recordings. The ladies voices are very different between the two. Janowitz is a brighter soprano voice than Studer. I like both ways.

Haven't spent much time with this one. Never even bought a copy. This one came in a Wagner opera set. Pretty good recording, but I have not spent much time with Tannhauser, and it is going to need to grow on me I think.

That's the audio recording of Tannhäuser I have, and I think it's quite good. Like Reiner Goldberg, Klaus König came from the former East Germany, but never became as well known as his fellow countryman. Yet he has a fine voice, and the rest of the cast here is wonderful.

Waltraud Meier is the great attraction to this set, and then who can complain about Lucia Popp?
