just recieved and am listening to the 63 Keilberth Meistersinger.
this is an excellent Meistersinger.
Generally slow tempi which i love.
Jess Thomas ia an excellent Walther. strong voice, intelligent singing..
Wiener is a bit strange as Sachs. his voice is a high baritone, but its strong and carries well. the rest of the cast is outstanding. the conducting, chorus and orchestra are very good
excellent analog sound. recommended
Jess Thomas was great - I saw him sing Parsifal with the Met on its annual tour to the Kennedy Center in his last performance before retiring in the early 1980s. His Lohengrin recorded with Kempe has long been one of my favorites - I still have my LP boxed set (5 LPs).
Thanks for the advice, DA - I'll look for it.
I'm also trying to decide which of the current Lohengrin recordings with Klaus Florian Vogt to buy. I heard him sing an other-worldly Siegmund last summer, and am dying to hear more.
Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali (also known as Viva la mamma) by Donizetti. A "lightweight" sort of opera. Funny and nice production.
