A composer I don't know much about.

An old documentary explanation of the Leitmotivs of the Ring on youtube:
Part of my Verdi Year Project - not one of his most inspired opera. Apparently there is a Konzept to the DVD, but I didn't realise until I read the Amazon review. But I was happy to see Andrew Richards in something after reading his blog.
This is a very fine recording:

I have never listened to a single note from La Battaglia di Legnano (not that I know of anyway). So I look forward to the new release.
Not all of the Tutto Verdi Blu Ray/DVDs are sucessfull but I can say without hesitaion the Gardelli CD recordings of these same early Verdi operas are just fantastic with surprising groups of "A list" singers taking part in his project.
They are all being released again now as part of a budget priced series with different better looking graphics

Part of of my Britten project - two highly recommended recordings. The singing and the staging of the Glyndebourne production are fantastic and of course the usual high quality product from FRA. Bravo François! Buy buy buy.

There are some scenes in the Bayreuth production of Meistersinger that are like a Vermeer painting. Good singing too, and lovely orchestral colours.

Got to have some relief from all the Britten/Wagner/Verdi listening:
