I liked this one. The staging was what I would describe as modernised traditional staging, which I liked. Only minor reservation was a touch of inactivity - the chorus and some lead singers (not all) tended not to move around/act that much. Very clear DVD.

Sounds like fun. Synopsis [here].
"J'ai dit qu'il ne suffisait pas d'entendre la musique, mais qu'il fallait encore la voir" (Stravinsky)
Best among the cast are Milnes in the title role, Paul Plishka (Fiesco), and Richard Clark (Paolo). Anna Tomowa-Sintow is a matronly Amelia/Maria, but she sings well enough. Vasile Moldoveanu is an acceptable Gabriele Adorno. I've heard more attractive voices, but I don't feel tempted to fast-forward through his arias as I do with Vesselina Kasarova's Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito) or Francesco Meli's Percy (Anna Bolena). The only real drawback in this video is the "stand-and-deliver" staging with its minimal interaction among cast members. Watching this really made me aware of how spoiled I've become by the likes of Kaufmann, Netrebko, Antonacci, Garanĉa, et. al.
I've been in listening bliss:
and watching heaven:
HC: You NEED this.
