Yes! I don't know if this was done especially for the competition though.

Oh, those lucky Londoners! This promo photo for the ROH's upcoming production of Andrea Chenier appeared on der Jonas' unofficial web site:

Since I won't be able to make it across the pond, I'm hoping one of the performances will be filmed for eventual release on video.

I did read in a Dutch Opera magazine that it's gong to filmed, the only question seems to be who's releasing it ( a thing between Decca and Sony)

Not me. I think I am the only woman on the planet who doesn't appreciate JK's "cough cough" talents.

Now this guy on the other hand ... Who is this woman? Why isn't she me?

    *fans self*

I love der Jonas's singing and I think he's very handsome and a great performer but I don't actually fancy him.

I run more to the William Shimell / Nicolas Rivenq type for looks.

Yes, I do find him quite attractive, but for me, his most important "assets" are his vocal cords.

Believe it or not, there is an opera titled Draculette -- and no, Angela Gheorghiu is neither the title character (as far as I can tell) nor performing in it at its world premiere concert performance 4 October at the Kaufman Center in New York. By William Maselli, Draculette appears to be one of three works with something of a Halloween theme that are on the program. Olga Zhuravel is singing the title role, with Charles Coleman conducting.
I discovered this information in a small ad in the October issue of Opera News, which arrived yesterday.

The inner voice of an opera singer, or what the baritone is really thinking.

On another note, I have some reproduction Met posters from the late 19th and early 20th century. One is for the "Inaugural Night of 10/22/1883. The production was Faust with Campanini, Nilsson (Christine) and Novara. Prices are what motivated this post: boxes for 6 people - $50.00; orchestra stalls- 6.00; balcony stalls - 3.00; "family circle" - 2.00. Of course, this was either the old house or a precurser of it. But a nice "bottle 'n bird" at Delmonico's, followed by a night at the opera seems to be within reach ...

Question: Does anyone know whether any performance of Die Zauberflote with costumes/stage sets etc... by Maurice Sendak has ever been released on DVD? I attended a performance of the Sendak-staged Zauberflote years ago and found it to be perfectly charming.

    Well that's discouraging.

I keep seeing a banner at the top of these pages, advertising one of Lyric Opera of Chicago's current productions.

Apparently, Verdi wrote an opera called Il Trovare.

    Who knew?
